Wensleydale Railway’s ‘Fireworks Express’ returns for Bedale fireworks night
The heritage railway’s special service returns on Saturday 7 November, taking visitors from Leyburn to the annual Bedale community fireworks display.
Wensleydale Railway’s ‘Fireworks Express’ train service will once again take visitors to the annual community fireworks event in Bedale. Each year the railway operates this special service from Leyburn to Bedale to allow people from the west end of the dale easier access to the event.

The special train service will operate on Saturday 7 November between Leyburn and Leeming Bar. Trains will depart Leeming Bar at 4pm and Leyburn at 5pm. Adult tickets are £10 return, and children aged 3 to 15 travel for only £1 when accompanied by a paying adult.
Located in historic Bedale Park with the imposing façade of Bedale Hall as a backdrop, each year residents and visitors are treated to a spectacular firework display. This year’s event will open from 5pm onwards, with live music followed by the fireworks at 7pm.
Nick Keegan, Marketing and Fundraising Manager at Wensleydale Railway, said: “We are pleased to once again provide our ‘Fireworks Express’ service in support of the Bedale community fireworks event. Our train service is the perfect way for people to attend the event and avoid driving on dark, busy roads and the stress of finding a car parking space. This year, why not support this community event, and your community railway, and let the train take the strain!”

About Wensleydale Railway
The Wensleydale Railway is a volunteer-led heritage railway serving the local community, offering tourists, families and transport enthusiasts a great value day out in the Yorkshire Dales. The railway is 22 miles long and is one of the longest heritage lines in the UK. It currently operates heritage diesel train services between Scruton (near Northallerton) and Leyburn on the outskirts of the spectacular Yorkshire Dales National Park, with award-winning, restored historic stations where visitors can learn about 1900s railway life on free guided tours with costumed living history interpreters.
The railway continues working to restore passenger services from Leyburn to Redmire. This approximately 5-mile section has been closed to passenger trains since 2020 due to the deteriorating condition of the track and infrastructure, and is the focus of a fundraising appeal alongside ongoing drainage, vegetation clearance and track renewal work. The railway hopes to restore passenger services over this very scenic part of its railway by 2028.
