Families are invited to hop aboard a special Halloween train at Bedale on Saturday 31 October and head to Scruton Station for an afternoon of spooky fun on the Wensleydale Railway.
Once at Scruton, children can get stuck into mask decorating, pin the nose on the Witch, pop-up ghost making and storytelling.

About the Wensleydale Railway
The Wensleydale Railway is a volunteer-led heritage railway serving the local community, offering tourists, families and transport enthusiasts a great value day out in the Yorkshire Dales. At 22 miles long, it is one of the longest heritage lines in the UK. It currently runs heritage diesel services between Scruton (near Northallerton) and Leyburn, on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, with award-winning restored stations where visitors can enjoy free guided tours with costumed living history interpreters.
The railway is working to restore passenger services from Leyburn to Redmire. This scenic five-mile section has been closed to passenger trains since 2020 because of the condition of the track and infrastructure, and is the focus of the Return to Redmire project, with a fundraising appeal and ongoing drainage, vegetation clearance and track renewal work. The railway hopes to restore passenger services on this stretch by 2028.
The Wensleydale Railway Trust is the charitable arm of the railway. It provides education on the railway’s history, conserves its heritage for the public benefit, and funds projects such as track repairs and maintenance. It also runs a National Lottery funded Heritage Education programme with local schools and the public, and promotes community engagement up and down the line.
