Jessica Sutta steps into a bold new creative chapter with her brand new single “Don’t Take Much”, a sleek, confident slice of contemporary dance-pop accompanied by a music video directed and produced by Sutta herself. The track is the first taste of Sutta’s forthcoming new album, set for release soon, marking the beginning of an exciting new era for the singer, songwriter and performer.
Best known to millions as a member of the iconic Pussycat Dolls, Sutta is now putting her own creative vision firmly at the centre of her music. Written by Michael Warren and Jessica and produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Dave Audé, “Don’t Take Much” combines the pop instincts that have defined her career with a darker, sophisticated and distinctly modern edge.
“I was lucky enough to work with Michael Warren, who brought me the song. I heard the demo and was instantly addicted. What I love most is its simplicity, it’s about peeling away the layers, letting go of the caricature, and getting back to your authentic self. I’m over trying to be anything else. It’s time to be me.” Jessica
At its core, “Don’t Take Much” represents the journey from darkness into light remembering the power within us to overcome whatever life throws our way. The TVs hint at Jess reemerging into a world she knows well, while the playful “kidnapping” of her friend is an unexpected way of commanding attention. As the video transforms from a dark, seductive industrial world into a surreal, crystallized landscape of color and light, it becomes a visual representation of alchemy turning, darkness, pressure, pain, and chaos into something powerful and beautiful.
Shot in Nashville, the video stars Orion Solarion, with choreography by Joy Spears and dancer Laken Waters, plus a special cameo from producer Dave Audé. Jessica’s closest friends also make appearances throughout, a reminder that no matter what life throws at you, sometimes you can get by with a little help from your friends.
The visual provides another side to “Don’t Take Much,” allowing Sutta to bring together her experience across music, dance, performance and visual storytelling while presenting the song exactly as she envisioned it.
“Producing and directing has been a lifelong dream of mine. I’m constantly dream-weaving ideas in my head, so watching this one come to life, and knowing I trusted myself enough to make it happen, makes me incredibly proud. I spent too much of my life trying to be what everyone else wanted me to be. This era is about stripping all of that away and becoming who I was born to be. Take me or leave me, I’m not editing myself anymore. There’s nothing more powerful, or more freeing, than being authentically you.” Jessica
“Don’t Take Much” signals the beginning of an exciting new era for an artist whose career has already taken her from Miami to some of the biggest stages in the world.
Best known as a member of the Pussycat Dolls, Sutta was part of one of the defining pop groups of the 2000s. Their debut album PCD became a global success, producing worldwide hits including “Don’t Cha,” “Buttons” and “Stickwitu”, earning a Grammy nomination and taking the group around the world performing for millions of fans.
A lifelong dancer, Sutta began training at just three years old before studying at Miami City Ballet and the New World School of the Arts. She later became a captain of the Miami Heat dance team before moving to Los Angeles, where she was discovered by Pussycat Dolls creator Robin Antin.
Following her years with the group, Sutta established herself as a solo artist with a strong presence in dance music. Her solo releases have produced four No. 1 hits on the U.S. Dance Club Songs chart “Show Me,” “Make It Last,” “I’m Gonna Get You” and “Distortion.”
Her solo album I Say Yes followed in 2017, produced by Dave Audé and Danny Majic.
Now, with “Don’t Take Much,” Sutta is reconnecting her unmistakable pop sensibility with the darker, edgier sounds of contemporary dance-pop, while taking greater control of the songwriting, imagery and visual world surrounding her music.
With decades of experience on stage, in the studio and in front of global audiences, Jessica Sutta continues to evolve without losing the qualities that made her a standout performer in the first place: her distinctive voice, powerful dance background, undeniable stage presence and ability to make pop music feel personal.
“Don’t Take Much” is out now.
