Jermyn Street Design Steps Up for Mental Health with 8 Million Steps Challenge and Donation to Mind

Jermyn Street Design (JSD), a B Corp industry leader in bespoke uniform design, production, and management, recognised for putting staff wellbeing at the heart of their business, has just celebrated achieving a charity challenge goal they set themselves during National Walking Month in May – to walk a total of 8 million steps – and they presented their local Mind with a donation of £500 as part of their charitable giving.

Within the scope of their broader sustainability commitments, which ensures that employee wellbeing is always actively sought, the team committed to make movement a bigger part of their day – the result being they collectively walked approximately 4000 miles, and took just over 8 million steps! They decided to also make it a sponsored challenge to raise money locally too.

As part of JSD’s ongoing staff wellbeing initiatives, and CSR commitment to giving back to the local community, the team came together regularly to walk collectively to achieve their challenge, raising money for their local Mind charity – the Hammersmith, Fulham, Ealing and Hounslow branch, at the same time.

This came as a thank you, and recognition for the work Mind does in the local area when during Mental Health Awareness Week, Mind put on free pop-up events in Hammersmith that some of the team attended.

CEO Ann Dowdeswell said: “From meditation to sound baths, to healthy eating workshops – Mind put on so many great events, all free for the local community and we fully embraced this as it felt a brilliant way for members of our team to get a taster of different wellbeing initiatives we could explore longer term. We were really appreciative of the work they’d put in and so choosing them as our charity partner felt like a great way for us to give back.”

Nicholas Smith, Head of Marketing and Communication – HFEH Mind said: “Community is at the heart of everything we do and getting this support back from local businesses and individuals is simply incredible. We were so impressed by JSD’s challenge to drive 8 million steps for mental health awareness, and thrilled they achieved their target. We are huge champions of the benefits and importance of physical health and how it relates so closely to mental health wellbeing. Their efforts go a long way to supporting the mental health of our west London communities.”

Ann added: ”We really enjoyed doing this challenge together and we are lucky we have some beautiful spots locally to walk, especially along the river and in Ravenscourt Park. We enjoyed much needed time away from screens, and appreciated having the chance to wander in nature – finding time to chat about things other than work did highlight to us all, just how important it is to get outdoors and get active, rather than sitting at your desk all day. I thoroughly enjoyed the focus of being more active and I hope we’ve changed some of our behaviours now as a result.”

Ann, who recently became CEO of JSD after a successful Management Buy Out, has always been a leader focused on wellbeing.

She said: ”My driving mission as CEO is to ensure that the JSD team are enabled to do their job to the best of their ability, to look after their wellbeing and ensure that we deliver on the promises we have made to every one of our clients. I am dedicated to making sure I support each employee with their personal and professional goals, so I can continue to build the best team in the industry, but one with wellbeing at the core. We have a strong and very experienced staff of like minded people at JSD; and I am proud to say that we are not afraid of pushing the boundaries and doing things differently.”

With a team of 38, JSD works with world leading brands in 80+ countries across the globe. Trusted by clients such as global sports organisations and associations, and brands such as Jet2, Butlin’s, First Group, Historic Royal Palaces, Pure Gym, Lancôme and Nuffield Health, JSD provides branded clothing for their teams and colleagues, with a focus on individuality, diversity at the forefront, with the philosophy that ‘no-one is uniform’.

As part of JSD’s commitment to fostering a healthy, balanced, and supportive workplace, they continue to invest in wellbeing initiatives that prioritise the holistic needs of the team. From mental health resources and flexible work arrangements to regular check-ins and team-building activities such as the one for National Walking Month, the aim is to create a working environment where everyone feels valued, heard, and empowered. These efforts are central to JSD’s culture and reflect their long-standing belief that a thriving team is the foundation of sustained success and innovation. This commitment also extends to client partnerships, with JSD proudly supporting PureGym’s Every Beat Counts 2025 – a week of health and wellbeing fitness challenges across their gym and office teams in June, fundraising for the British Heart Foundation.
