Empowering Young Men Through Movement and Mentorship

At the heart of The Mental Shift’s work is a powerful 12-week Muay Thai programme for young men aged 12 to 25. Offering free training, equipment, and one-to-one peer mentorship, the programme isn’t just about physical fitness—it builds confidence, emotional resilience, and belonging. The mentors, many of whom have lived experience of mental health challenges, create a safe and judgment-free space for young men to open up and heal.

Extending Support into Schools and Neurodiverse Communities

The Mental Shift also delivers engaging, stigma-busting mental health workshops in schools, colleges, and alternative education settings. These sessions spark honest conversations and empower students to understand and manage their mental wellbeing.

In 2024, the organisation launched Active Connection, a groundbreaking programme tailored for neurodiverse young people and their families. Through adaptive physical activity and education, it’s helping build confidence, community, and meaningful connection.

What sets The Mental Shift apart is its grassroots, lived-experience-led approach. Founded by Kai Leighton, whose own teenage battle with mental health gave rise to the organisation, The Mental Shift is rooted in empathy, urgency, and real action.
